Who, What, and Why?
Welcome to my little manga review site! Your super-chatty hostess is Riot, who has too much to say and no one who wants to hear any of it. The series covered on this site are from my Japanese - that is, "raw" - manga collection. I first started collecting manga back in high school, when my friends and I wasted our youth (and money) watching anime and convention-hoping. Now, post-college, those friends have all gone, I don’t really watch anime anymore, and I stay away from conventions, but I still love and horde manga. However, reading all of these books has been a constant problem over the years for a variety of reasons: no time, no money, no translations, bad scanlations, my elementary-level Japanese skills, and the pull of socializing, relationships, the Great Outdoors, and my other non-manga related hobbies. This is, then, the chief reason I decided to put up a review site, to give myself a reason to read the books in my collection.

This site was first opened in, believe it or not, August of 2004. However, due to school, it was shut down in the summer of 2005 and sat around on my hard drive, taking up space. It was re-opened in January of 2008 and, this time, is here to stay. The format previously used for reviews has changed, although I still write too much. I have not yet come up with a consistent style of reviewing; some reviews are theatrical, others more straightforward. I hope you are least find them informative and decently argued, even if you don't agree with my opinion. Comments are always appreciated and, of course, I hope you find something you'd like to read. Enjoy!

Some general info included with the review:

(cover) - The cover is always the first volume of the series. You might see different covers for the same volume elsewhere; that usually means that the series has been re-released with different cover art.

Title - The official Japanese title comes first in bold, followed by (elementary level Japanese providing) a translation of it. A second title in "( )" is usually a decorative romanji title that is not necessarily part of the official Japanese title but is commonly used to refer to the series by Western fans. If the title is followed by "and ---", it means that the second title is a review of another story in the same book.

By - The mangaka (typically the author and illustrator), or the gensakusha (writer) + mangaka (when he or she only illustrates). Names are listed in surname-given name order.

Imprint - The labels (more accurately, lines) under which a publisher releases a series in tankoubon format. Imprints are usually linked to a magazine or magazines, but not always. For example, series running in "Shounen Jump" are published under the imprint JUMP COMICS (JC) while series running in "Hana to Yume" and "LaLa" are published under the imprint Hana to Yume COMICS. However, an imprint may continue to be used long after the magazine sharing the name of the imprint folds (ex: EYES COMICS). Imprints are useful indicators of what genre a series (sometimes ostensibly) belongs under. A series' imprint is found printed on the spine of the book (usually up top) or with the publication information printed in the back of the book.

Magazine - The majority of manga are serialized first in a manga magazine before being released as tankoubon. Manga magazines run a number of series at once and are aimed at a particular gender/age group or interest group, such as children (yonen manga), boys (shounen manga), girls (shoujo manga), pachinko manga, 'silver manga' (for the elderly), pornography, and so on. Not all manga run in manga magazines. Some may be published first in a tankoubon format or re-released in a bunko format, while others may run in non-manga magazines (ex: Yazawa Ai's Paradise Kiss ran in the fashion magazine "Zipper").

Text Policy
I don't anticipate any problems, and I just want to have a good time with this site. But this is the internet, after all. So, here is my policy regarding the text of this site:

Things That Are OK!
1. Quoting my reviews in the honorable manner, with " " and references, as you were taught to do in high school and expected to do to pass college.

Things That Are Not OK.
1. Copying and pasting my reviews in whole, even with " " and references. That is, do not re-post my reviews. Contact me first.
2. Plagerizing my reviews or any of the text on my site.
3. Copying and pasting any of the text on this site besides my reviews.

Basically, don't steal. Obviously, you don't have to do a full Chicago Style citation. A simple, Riot at The Trash says, "Loveless is crap!", will do. I want to keep the content of this site original and unique, that's all.

Image & Graphics Policy
I scanned everything on this site, damnit, so listen up. Before you dig in, please read over my four simple "do not" requests regarding the use of scans from this site. By "scans" I mean the borderless, black & white samples of images from the manga found in the reviews.

1. Do not re-post my scans in other reviews, on other websites, or in any kind of online gallery. That's kinda lame.
2. Do not claim my scans as your own scans or your own work. They aren't.
3. Do not use my scans if your project is for commerical use. Period.
4. Do not take and use my CLAMP scans for anything. CLAMP has formally requested that their work not be reproduced without permission for any reason besides review. I would like to honor that request. As a fan, it's one of the least things I can do.

That's it! Crappy as they are, feel free to take and use any of the scans on this site (sans CLAMP) for personal use: avatars, buttons, layouts, etc. Credit isn't required but it is appreciated.

However. Do not take, recycle and/or modify in anyway for any reason my graphics or any of the other images on this site, including images used for making the layout. Not that I expect anyone to be tempted, but: no.

Although I'd be very surprised if this was ever to become a problem. Not that I'm trying to be too serious with this site, but it never hurt to post a note or two.
